Aikido is a relatively recent form of martial art, invented in the 1920s by Morihei Ueshiba based on other, older forms of martial arts. the basic principle of Aikido is to use the force of one's opponent against him rather than counter the force. Aikido practitioners use little force to defeat their opponents because of the ability to turn the enemy's force against him. Aikido was introduced to the west in th 1950s and is now practiced worldwide. Aikido training poses more emphasis on mental training (relaxation. focus) than physical training since little force is required.
