The Pandeiro is a small hand-drum made of a ring with leather stretched across it. Metal jingles are incorporated in the ring, creating a rhythmic crisp sound when the Pandeiro is played. The pandeiro is held in one hand while the other hand strikes the surface area. Strikes can be made with either the thumb or the tip od the fingers to create two distinct sounds. The Pandeiro is one of the instruments used in the Capoeira circle to accompany the players with rhythmic chants. It is also used in regular samba groups as a musical instrument.
